David Shutter
is a freelance musician and
instrumental teacher who lives in Huddersfield. Originally a trumpet
player from an orchestral background, he first became involved with
brass bands whilst studying for a music degree at Huddersfield
University. He was a founder member of the Sellers International
Band which is based in the town. This was followed by several years
playing with the British Aerospace Band where he was also appointed
as Assistant Conductor.
David has performed with
many different ensembles over the years, both professional and
amateur. He has travelled extensively, performing throughout Europe,
Scandinavia, Israel and the Far East. One particular highlight was
the opportunity to perform a trumpet concerto as part of the
prestigious 'Salzburg Music Festival'.
Having worked as a
peripatetic music teacher for over 10 years, David recently decided
to spend more time with his young family, and now works from home as
a private instrumental teacher.
David continues to have a great enthusiasm for brass bands and was
appointed Musical Director of the Tintwistle Band in 1997. Under his
leadership, the band have fulfilled over 150 concert engagements;
qualified for the national finals; gained promotion to the first
section; appeared on television for 'Songs of Praise'; made two CD
recordings and given numerous prize winning contest performances.
